Let's Chat Games 021 - Quick Thoughts on Today’s Switch 2 Direct
While I’m worried about the world economy, I’m pretty dang excited about the Switch 2!
Just a quick newsletter with some HOT TAKES about today’s Switch 2 Direct!
I’m out of town (and sending this from my iPad, so please excuse all typos etc), so I was unable to join Jeff and Lana for today’s special Switch 2 Paid DLC episode. I’m sure we’ll talk about it more on the upcoming main DLC show too, buuuuuut… let’s get some hot takes out now!
I’m super excited for the Super Switch, Switch 2, and I thought today’s Direct was great… in the very Nintendo kind of way. Here’s what I’m most excited about:
Mario Kart World looks AMAZING! Mario Kart plus Forza Horizon sound like a dream game to me. And it still has a more traditional Cup mode racing too? Yes and please! Mario Kart 8 was already very popular in my house and I see Mario Kart World only being more so (assuming the tracks are fun, but I have no reason to think they won’t be).
Metroid Prime 4 getting the 4K/60 FPS mode or 1080p/120 FPS mode sounds sublime. I love Metroid Prime, and I think the Remaster on Switch is great. And now you’re telling me that I get Prime 4 in either 4K or 120 FPS!? That’s a great upgrade that, honestly, I wasn’t necessarily expecting from Nintendo.
Donkey Kong Bananza also looks GREAT! I love the Retro developed DK games, and while I don’t know the developer of Bananza, the trailer looked to capture a lot of fun and imagination.
And then… then, the, then… AN EXCLUSIVE FROMSOFT GAME COMING IN 2026?! That alone feels like an “E3 style MEGATON” announcement. I dig vampires, I’ve really liked a lot of FromSoftware games and from what we saw of The Duskbloods, it looks to bring a lot of both of those to the table. Sign. Me. Up.
I also liked the C button idea for dedicated chat. Maybe I’m giving Nintendo too much of a pass here, but coming from their smartphone chat application for Switch, that was/is terrible, this seems like a big win. And as a parent, it seems like a way I’d be more comfortable letting my kids play and chat with their friends online. I don’t like the “download this other app to chat” approach so many of us rely on. Sure, it works, but for kids it’s not ideal to me.
Lastly, for this quick newsletter, GameCube games coming to Switch Online + Expansion Pass is a nice value add (until they raise the sub price, lol, weeeeeee). It’s a weird way to get Wind Waker on Switch 2, but I’ll take it!
Ok, yeah, just a quick newsletter sent from my iPad while I’m out of town. But yeah, I’m stoked. Give me that Switch 2, baby!
What do you think? Are you excited about what you saw? Let me know! And thank you everyone for your feedback on the video newsletters. I have more videos planned and more written newsletters planned too. Hopefully with the naming conventions, etc, it will be easy to see which type of newsletter is which.
Thanks for being here!

1. Stating the obvious but the price hurts on a physical, mental, spiritual level (but I get it). 2. The lack of clarity regarding Switch > Switch 2 upgrades/backwards compatibility (from what I've seen), and 3. also the tech demo game is a PAID download?
Other than that I am right with you in terms of stoked-ness.
Firstly, You're always missed on the show, when you're not there sir spiceman.
I thought the direct was amazing. It had everything needed to get any nintendo or gamer fan excited. From a new exclusive to an old school kirby come back.
The console is what was to be expected right? It's bigger and better. Perfect!!
The mouse feature? Cool? I personally don't know what to make of that yet. But I'll stick with cool for now.
The price is whereabouts I thought it would be. I dont mind that. The games are expensive of course they are but we're going to buy them.
I'm not a massive hardware head. i don't know how much it all costs to make a console. But I'm under the impression these company's virtually give the consoles away and make money off of the games. Fair enough. That's business. And I want what they're selling!!
Mario kart world looks amazing. It really does. From 8 to this, is what it needed. Its a total shake up and that's really exciting
DK and Kirby look so much fun.
And the from software game what an awesome suprise.
Also a new Hyrule warriors that looked very interesting.
All in all I'm excited!
Is there any big game comebacks or remakes your hoping to be announced for a holiday release?
Thanks
